Division III CHAMPIONS!!!

HAZEN HIGHLIGHTS
 
Young Playwrights:  Students who attended the Vermont Young Playwright's Workshops are reminded that scripts must be emailed to Mr. Dickstein before 3 PM TODAY.  Students going on the music field trip are reminded to submit their script before they leave.  
 
A World of Difference:  The next meeting of the Hazen AWOD group is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16, during period 4 in Mrs. Bal's room. All members should attend.
 
NHS Fundraisers:  National Honor Society members are selling the red and green!  Green shamrocks for Muscular Dystrophy and red Haiti Relief bracelets.  Please be generous and support these worthy causes.

Word of the Day:  Specious (spe-cious) adj.  Meaning:Having the ring of truth or plausibility but fallacious; a specious argument.  2.  Deceptively attractive.


LIBRARY CORNER  
 
National Women's History Month:  In 1980, President Carter issued the first Presidential Proclamation recognizing the importance of honoring and celebrating the achievements of American Women.  March became known as National Women's History Month.  Stop by the library to see our display of materials about some of the many women who have contributed to our country, past and present.   
 
For High School Students:  April is Sexual Violence Awareness month.  The Hardwick Chapter of AWARE will host two book discussions at Hazen.  The first book to be read and discussed on April 6 at 2:45 PM, is Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.  If you are interested in participating, please see Mrs. Henchel in the Library for a copy of the book.  Space is limited to 12 students.

MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
 

HIGH SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
 
Seniors:  All seniors need to pick up a Last Will and Testament sheet.  It is due to Mr. Mitchell by Thursday, March 18.
 
GMTCC Pre-Tech Program:  9th grade students who are interested in applying for the Pre-Tech Program at GMTCC must pick an application and get two recommendations by March 19.  See Ms. Davis or Ms. Dailey in the Guidance Office for more information.
 
Seniors:  There will be a very important Senior Class meeting on Tuesday, March 16, at 2:40 PM in the cafeteria.  We will be making important decisions so please attend!
 
Girls State: The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor the 67th session of Green Mountain Girls State from June 20-25, 2010, at Castleton State College.  Information is available at the Guidance Counter for interested girls.  Applications are due by April 1, 2010.

All High School Basketball Players!  Be sure to pick up an invitation to the Sports Banquet at John Sperry's office and return it by March 19.  It is important to have an accurate attendance count, so be sure to sign up.  ALSO, BE SURE TO TURN IN UNIFORMS RIGHT AWAY!
 
Spring Athletes:  Please check with John Sperry to make sure all your paper work is in before the start of your season.  You cannot practice if all your paper work is not in.
 
Varsity Softball:  The gym will be open today from 3 to 4 PM to get ready for the upcoming softball season.  Practice will officially begin at 3 PM on Monday, March 15th. 
 
Basketball 3 on 3 Tournament: Athletes planning to play in the 3 on 3 Tournament must turn their registration form to John Sperry by Friday!!

 GUIDANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
Seniors:  Applications for local scholarships are available on the Guidance counter.  If you want to be considered for any of the scholarships that Hazen Union oversees, you must complete this application and return it to Guidance.  These applications are due by April 16!
 
Students!  Visit the Guidance web page and check out the "Guidance News" Bulletin Board frequently for information on colleges and careers.
 

 REACH!  After School Programs                          Site Coordinator:  Darlene Miller 472-6511  Ext: 163
 
 
REACH Field Trip to IROC!  This is the last day to register for the REACH program  field trip to IROC on Friday, March 19.  The cost is $10 per student and includes pizza and soda for dinner.  Registration forms are available on the Front Desk, Guidance Counter, or from Mrs. Miller.

Songwriting Workshop with Randy Bulpin:  Meets on Tuesdays from March 9 through May 25. 
 
Claymation!  Back by popular demand...March 16 through May 25.....Claymation workshop with Vermont film maker Meredith Holch.  Learn the craft of creating and bringing clay figures to life with stop-motion photography.  The cost is $20 and there is only space for 9 students so see Mrs. Miller to register today!
 
Reading Buddies: Meet in the Hazen Library Atrium on Thursdays from 3 - 4:30 PM.  Students participating in this group will create a reading program for Hardwick Elementary students.  See Ms. Schoen if you are interested in joining.
 
Crafters' Circle:  Meets on Mondays from 3 - 4:30 PM beginning January 25th.   Get a group of friends together for an afternoon of fun and creativity.  Students will select future craft projects.
 
Junior Iron Chef: Meetings on Thursday at 3 PM in the Family Consumer Science room.
 
Cirque Du Freak Reading Club!   Meets on Thursdays beginning March 11, in Mrs. Bauer's room.

Homework Cafe:   Homework Cafe is open Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5 PM in the Hazen Library. Snacks are provided until 2:50 PM for all Cafe students.
 
Activity Bus:  The Activity Bus runs on Monday through Thursday for students who stay after school for adult supervised activities and clubs.  Students wishing to take the Activity Bus must sign up in the library by 3:`15 PM. If no one signs up before 3:15 PM, the bus will be cancelled.  Bus #1 will leave at 4:30 PM and drop off students at the Woodbury Store.  Bus #2 will leave at 4:50 PM and will drop off students in Greensboro at Willey's Store, Greensboro Bend Post Office, and East Hardwick at the D& L Store.
