Building A Baby weeks 5-6

                                 
Facts:

1. During week five the arm and leg buds begin to appear so the baby can move.

2. Lungs begin to form so the baby can breath.

3. The brain starts to develop so the baby can think.

4.During week five  the baby has it's first heartbeat.

5. In week six the ultrasound shows a fluttering heartbeat.

6.The babies nostrils begin to form.

7. During weeks 5 and 6 the blood begins to pump.

8. During weeks 6 the lenses of the eyes appear on the baby. If you could look at your baby from the inside you could visually see the eye lenses.

9. During the 5- 6  week gestation period of the mother  the woman starts to get major mood  swings.

10. The pregnant woman begins to gain a small amount of weight. The weight gain is about a pound a month.

11. The woman gets nauseous and they get very tired all the time during the 1st trimester of pregnancy.

12.The embryo is about 1/5 of an inch in length.

13.Intestines begin to take shape

14.The placenta begins to provide nourishment for the embryo.

Tests:
  • Name of test: Ultrasound                                                             
  • When performed by doctor: All three trimesters during pregnancy.
  • How it is performed: An ultrasound is performed  when the gel is applied to the abdomen and the ultrasound transducer goes over the gel on the abdomen to create the image of the child on the screen.
  • What the test can determine: The ultrasound can determine if the woman had a miscarriage or if the bay is alright. The test can also detect if  the baby has fatal abnormalities. It can also determine the due date and gender of the baby sometimes.
