Facts: Around 5-6 weeks, the embryo gets a heartbeat. At the same time, the embryo’s organs begin to develop. The umbilical cord develops too and now the embryo can receive nutrients from the mother. The embryo also receives all four heart chambers, lungs, brain, legs, intestines, pancreas, and lenses of the eyes. At 5 weeks the embryo's leg buds and arm buds begin to appear. At 6 weeks the embryo's nostrils begin to appear and shift into the right place and the nerves running from the nose to the brain begin to appear.  During the first three months of the pregnancy, the mother will feel nausea, fatigue, backaches, mood swings and stress. These are some facts about the mother and fetus during pregnancy.
Tests for mother: One test that the mother can have is the Alpha-fetoprotien screening. This tests the mother’s blood during the pregnancy. This test could cause Down syndrome, twins, and a miss calculated due date. Another test that the mother can get done is called Chorionic Villus Sampling. This test takes placenta tissue and it tests the chromosomes to see if there are any abnormal ones. And lastly, the mom can get an ultrasound. An Ultrasound scan is a diagnostic technique, which uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of the internal organs. The Ultrasound that is done to check on the embryo at 5-6 weeks is to figure out many things about the embryo. One thing that an Ultrasound tells about the embryo is the due date. Another thing is it tells how many fetuses the mother is going to have. These are some tests that the mother has done during her pregnancy.
